Frequently asked questions.
What is psychodynamic psychotherapy?
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a deep and structured therapeutic process aimed at permanently resolving the causes of the difficulties a person is experiencing, rather than merely masking their symptoms temporarily. This method makes it possible to reach unconscious motivations, internal conflicts, and structural defense mechanisms, leading to their understanding and a lasting restructuring of how the personality functions.
A detailed discussion of the method, its assumptions, and the course of each stage of the work can be found in the Therapy section.
Does psychotherapy work?
At the Liberté Institute, we work exclusively within the Evidence-Based Medicine paradigm. The effectiveness of psychodynamic psychotherapy in treating mood disorders (depression, dysthymia), anxiety disorders, personality disorders, and psychosomatic difficulties, among others, has been confirmed by numerous clinical studies and meta-analyses.
This approach is officially recognized and recommended by leading global health institutions, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UK's National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
What competencies should a good psychotherapist in Warsaw have?
A reliable therapeutic process requires the highest qualifications, which is why staff selection at the Liberté Institute follows an uncompromising process.
Every psychodynamic psychotherapist on our team holds a full degree in psychology (a master's degree) and has completed at least the second year, or is a certified graduate, of a specialized, comprehensive four-year psychodynamic psychotherapy program at a center accredited by the Polish Psychological Association or the Polish Psychiatric Association. This also means that our specialists - beyond broad theoretical knowledge - have practical competencies gained during clinical internships and have undergone their own personal therapy.
To guarantee full clinical safety, the work of every psychotherapist is subject to regular, independent supervision by a certified supervisor of the Polish Society for Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (PTPPd), provided by the Institute.
Who do we support?
We provide psychotherapy exclusively for adults - we do not conduct therapeutic processes for children and adolescents.
We offer in-depth psychodynamic psychotherapy for adults, with particular focus on founders, entrepreneurs, and senior managers struggling with burnout, decision-making crises, and emotional overload. The method used at the Liberté Institute addresses real needs and suffering, going deeper than coaching or other support methods that promote superficial self-development.
We also specialize in working with individuals presenting features of personality disorders, in particular narcissistic and borderline personality disorder. We work with difficulties such as mood disorders (depression, dysthymia), anxiety states, psychosomatic symptoms, and personality barriers that hinder everyday functioning.
We do not provide therapy for children and adolescents, nor systemic family therapy.
What is the structural interview and how do I start the process at the Liberté Institute?
Before deciding to begin a therapeutic process, we offer the option of a free initial consultation - a 20-minute phone call during which, based on the difficulties reported, the specialist determines the optimal clinical path.
The actual therapy process begins with a structural interview, usually lasting 5 to 7 sessions. This is a reliable diagnostic protocol (based on, among others, STIPO-R) that allows for an objective assessment of personality structure and defense mechanisms, and determines the real need for therapy. As a result of this process, the psychotherapist formulates a clear psychotherapeutic diagnosis based on diagnostic classification categories, providing full clinical clarity before deciding on long-term collaboration.
How long does the therapy process take?
The length of psychotherapy is determined individually during the structural interview stage and depends on the complexity of the reported difficulties and the patient's goals. For precisely defined problems, a short-term, focused process usually concludes within a maximum of 12 sessions.
Working with deep personality structures, mood disorders, or professional burnout typically requires a long-term process, lasting from several months to several years. Regardless of duration, continuity and progress are regularly evaluated, and the ultimate goal is always the development of the patient's full autonomy.
Where do sessions take place, and is psychotherapy offered online?
The heart of the Liberté Institute is a private space in a renovated, historic townhouse on Aleja Wyzwolenia, a few steps from Plac Zbawiciela in Warsaw. High ceilings (3.5 m) and carefully designed, classic offices ensure full discretion, confidentiality, and conditions conducive to deep reflective work.
Given the specific nature and rigor of psychodynamic psychotherapy, the primary format we recommend is regular in-person meetings. We consider online sessions only on an individual basis - in justified logistical cases or when continuing an ongoing process for people living abroad.
All interior photographs you see on the website come exclusively from our own offices.
How often are sessions held and how long does one meeting last?
In the psychodynamic psychotherapy paradigm, the standard frequency of work is 1 or 2 times a week, with each session lasting 50 minutes. Each person has a fixed time slot reserved for them each week, which guarantees regularity, structure, and continuity of the process.
Because we operate within the Evidence-Based Medicine paradigm and base all therapeutic decisions on current scientific knowledge, we do not hold sessions every other week during the active process. Clinical research (including Cuijpers et al., Erekson et al.) clearly shows that lower session frequency reduces the size of the therapeutic effect, prolongs the duration of symptoms, and reduces the process to a superficial recounting of events rather than deep work on personality structure.
Biweekly meetings are an acceptable format only at the stage of concluding and gradually ending psychotherapy, once the person has developed a high degree of autonomy and inner calm.
What are the costs of psychotherapy and the cancellation policy?
The cost of a regular individual psychotherapy session (50 minutes) is 250 zł in Polish and 300 zł in English. For short-term, goal-focused processes aimed at supporting business clients (up to 12 sessions), the cost is 450 zł per session.
Payments are made by bank transfer to the Liberté Institute's account (69 1140 2004 0000 3102 8450 5407) no later than 24 hours before the session, or in advance for the entire month - failure to pay on time will result in the appointment being cancelled.
Free cancellation or rescheduling of a session requires at least 48 hours' notice (via email to kontakt@instytutliberte.pl or SMS to +48 797 545 988); later cancellation or a no-show requires payment of the full session fee.
Invoices are issued collectively at the end of the month, after billing details have been sent in advance to rozliczenia@instytutliberte.pl (please notify us of this need by email before the session); otherwise, a receipt will be issued.
What difficulties do entrepreneurs, founders, and managers most often bring to therapy?
Our Institute frequently sees people in stable professional positions - leaders, founders after several years of scaling a company or facing a decision about an exit, as well as corporate directors who have hit an "internal wall." The most common areas of clinical work in this group are:
- Professional burnout combined with an identity crisis and loss of a sense of meaning.
- Difficulties managing stress and teams stemming from deep personality barriers.
- Psychosomatic disorders and persistent problems with insomnia and sleep architecture.
- Affective mood disorders (depressive spectrum, dysthymia) and chronic anxiety states.
How does psychotherapy for entrepreneurs differ from business coaching or mentoring?
The difference is fundamental and concerns the depth of the work and the resulting changes. Executive coaching, mentoring, and other forms of pseudo-therapeutic support operate solely at the behavioral level - they teach management techniques, motivation, temporary symptom relief, and focus on business results (a quick-fix method).
The Liberté Institute does not provide coaching services. The psychotherapy we offer for entrepreneurs and founders is a structured, in-depth process with proven scientific effectiveness. It reaches the unconscious causes of relational crises, patterns of functioning under high pressure, and rigid personality structures.
Our priority is the effectiveness of the process, as well as the ethical standards of our work. We offer uncompromising reliability, disciplined process, and confrontation delivered with care, leading to lasting, structural autonomy and greater psychological resilience.
